‘Evil clown’ pleads guilty to burglarizing Franklin County post office

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. – A man admitted to breaking into a Franklin County post office twice and stealing packages while wearing a clown mask.

Scott Weatherby, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary of a post office during a federal court hearing on Wednesday.

Investigators say Weatherby targeted a U.S. Post Office location in St. Albans on back-to-back days last August. Weatherby wore a clown mask as he pried the back door open and stole various packages from the post office.

Authorities later identified Weatherby as a suspect and arrested him at his home in Pacific, Missouri. Weatherby tried to run out through his back door, but officers caught him after a short foot chase.

Police found a clown mask and several stolen packages addressed to St. Albans in his vehicle.

“My reaction was it kind of made me laugh, you know? A guy putting a clown mask on to break-into a federal post office, which is the most idiotic thing you could ever think of, breaking-into a federal post office, because it’s a federal crime. I mean, who does that?” Dan Hebrank, resident, said.

The community has since installed cameras at both entrances in an effort to fend-off any more ‘funny business.’

Weatherby is expected to be sentenced on May 7. He could up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines for each charge.
