A Clueless TV reboot is in the works, and we’re totally buggin’ about the twist

CBS TV Studios is currently working on a television reboot of the 1995 cult-classic comedy Clueless. And although we’re buggin’ about that information alone, we’re double buggin’ at the fact that Deadline describes the project as “Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video.” Um, sign us the heck up.

The site reports that the Clueless TV remake will consist of hour-long episodes revolving around high school queen Cher Horowitz’s BFF Dionne.

Stacey Dash played Dionne in the original 1995 flick and the 1996 Clueless TV series, which only ran for three seasons.

As for the Riverdale connection? In this upcoming show, there’s a big mystery component. The show, set in Los Angeles in 2020, reportedly opens with Cher’s mysterious disappearance. Dionne is not only left to uncover what happened to her best gal pal, but she also must subsequently step into Cher’s platform Mary Janes and rule the high school with humility and grace, as Cher did before her.

Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey, who wrote for Will & Grace, have penned the new series. Executive producers are Corinne Brinkerhoff, Tiffany Grant, and Robert Lawrence, who was a producer on the original Clueless movie.

Of course, because of the darker themes of the teen drama based on an original, comedic property, The CW is reportedly very interested in picking up the show. It would pair well with Riverdale, Nancy Drew, and its upcoming teen drama series Katy Keene.

However, the gritty take on Clueless would also go nicely with Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. So we have a feeling there will be a battle over who gets Clueless when it’s ready to air.

Although this idea seems original enough to distance itself enough from the original, fans are still concerned that CBS may be toeing a line that no one asked them to toe.

But others are intrigued. We want to see Paul Rudd reprise his role as Josh…LOL.

Whether you’re for or against a Clueless reboot, we can all agree that this news gives us a good excuse to rewatch the movie for the billionth time.
