Clyde's Of Columbia To Close Its Doors In July

COLUMBIA, MD — After 45 years of cultivating relationships and feeding patrons, Clyde's of Columbia will close its doors in July. As the first Maryland eatery opened by the Washington-based Clyde's Restaurant Group, Clyde's of Columbia sits next to The Soundry on Lake Kittamaqundi, which opened in 2018 as a music venue and event space.

John McDonnell, chief operating officer of Clyde's Restaurant Group, linked the closure to declining sales and the coronavirus pandemic.

"Clyde's has had a tremendous 45-year run and we are so grateful for the terrific support of the wonderful Columbia community," McDonnell said in a statement. "It breaks our heart to be closing, but after several years of struggling sales, the pandemic and the challenges music venues are now facing as a result, 2020 has dealt us a blow we simply cannot overcome."

The company hopes to retain the Columbia staff at other Clyde's locations, which include 11 restaurants across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The restaurant group also owns 1789, The Hamilton, Old Ebbitt Grill, The Tombs and The Soundry.
