CMP customer outages drop below 5,000 in wake of powerful storm

Dec. 1—More than 31,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers lost power Wednesday night as the result of a storm that brought high winds and heavy rain to southern Maine.

By 3 p.m. Thursday, the number of customers without power had dropped to roughly 4,900, with most of those in Cumberland County, according to CMP's electricity outage list.

The Cumberland County outages included nearly 500 outages in New Gloucester and 190 in Brunswick.

Versant Power, which services northern and Downeast Maine, reported 6,961 customers were without power Thursday morning. That number had dropped below 250 by 3 p.m.

Thursday's forecast in Portland called for breezy conditions and scattered snow showers during the afternoon.
