Man hit, killed by driver while crossing busy road without crosswalk, CMPD says
A man was hit and killed by a car over the weekend in north Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police said it happened Saturday around 10 p.m. on North Tryon Street, between West Lidell Street and 16th Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 2016 Hyundai Sonata with front-end damage in the road. They also found Daniel Antwan Henry, 41, near the car. He was in the middle of the road and was not responsive, police said.

According to police, Henry was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Investigators said they believe Henry was wearing dark clothing and was not using a crosswalk as he was making his way across North Tryon Street near 15th Street. As he was crossing, police said the Sonata was heading down the street when the front of the car hit Henry.
Officers said the Sonata’s driver pulled over immediately and stayed at the scene.
CMPD shut down the road during their investigation and drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Investigators don’t believe the car’s speed was a factor in the crash, and the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash. It’s not yet known if Henry was impaired -- authorities are waiting for the results of his toxicology report.
