The C.M. Russell High volleyball team took down Great Falls High in straight sets Tuesday night, besting its crosstown rival 25-6, 25-11, 25-9 at CMR Fieldhouse.
Senior middle blocker Lexi Thornton helped pace the Rustlers in the three-set win with 11 kills and a game-high seven blocks.
Junior Sophie Madsen followed suit with 11 kills of her own for CMR, adding three blocks as well on the defense.
Senior outside hitter Ella Cochran tallied a match-best 11 digs on top of five service aces and three blocks along the net. Senior setter Norah Allen dished out 33 of the Rustlers 35 assists, while senior libero Avarey Stuff earned 10 digs and three aces in the balanced effort.
The defending state champion Rustlers of head coach Patrick Hiller moved to 12-2 on the season with the Eastern AA victory, and 5-2 in conference play.
Sophomores Abby McDonald and Grace Woldtvedt led the Bison offensively with a pair of kills apiece, with Woldtvedt adding one of her team’s three blocks along with junior Kyesha Farmer.
Gracie Boutilier, a senior setter for Great Falls High, assisted on all eight kills for mentor Taylor Parker.
Senior libero Ashlyn Jones put up six digs, while junior Morgan Hawthorne added four.
The Bison moved to 1-6 in the Eastern AA following the loss and 2-11 overall.
CMR and Great Falls High both play host to the second East-West Crossover event on Saturday with four nonconference matches each in their home gyms.
