CMS program gifts bikes to kindergarten students, teaches them how to ride

Learning how to ride a bike is a childhood memory many recall, and now, more Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools kindergarten students were able to make memories of their own.

Students at Oakhurst Steam Academy in east Charlotte were gifted bikes Wednesday. It is all part of the All Kids Bike Program that CMS first implemented back in 2018.

“We are slowly building up to get to hopefully every school in the district. That’s the end game,” said Keith Kraemer, a CMS Health & PE resource teacher.

The district said 29 other schools also have the program, including Ballantyne, Bruns Avenue, Endhaven, Highland Renaissance, Torrence Creek, Billingsville, Idlewild, Villa Heights, Smithfield, Winget Park, Rama Road, Montclaire, Allenbrook, Westerly Hills, Irwin Academic Center, Nations Ford, University Park Creative Arts, Steele Creek, Highland Creek, Winterfield, Piney Grove, Huntersville, Long Creek, Davidson K-8, Parkside, Winding Springs, Devonshire, Oakhurst , and Shamrock Gardens.
