1. CMS student injured by hit-and-run driver while boarding Carmel Middle School bus

A Carmel Middle School student was struck by a car this morning while crossing the street.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says the driver fled the scene. The student was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a note to families from Principal Andre Plaisance.

2. Change in plans: Johnston YMCA won’t close at end of year after deal falls through

The Johnston YMCA is staying open. Well, at least for the time being.

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte announced today the NoDa branch will remain open past the end of the year after a deal to sell the property to a developer fell through.

3. With Bryce Young injured, Panthers will look to use Andy Dalton one way or another

For the second straight day, rookie quarterback Bryce Young did not practice for the Carolina Panthers.

That means veteran quarterback Andy Dalton could play a major role in the team’s offense and maybe even start on Sunday in Seattle if Young is held out due to his ankle injury.

4. Momentum builds for East Coast debut of The Avett Brothers musical ‘Swept Away’

There’s plenty of momentum surging for The Avett Brothers’ first musical.

The shipwreck survival tale “Swept Away” will make its East Coast debut this fall at Wasington, D.C.’s Arena Stage. Ticket sales for the show remain robust with orders coming in from most states and even as far away as the U.K., Japan and South Korea.
