MEMPHIS – Showboats fans finally got to meet their new head coach… in person Friday.

John DeFilippo along with United Football League Vice President of Football operations, the former Dallas Cowboy great Darryl Johnston, mingling with the Yacht Club out at Wiseacre Brewing.

This is year one of the newly merged UFL, where all eight teams will practice during the week in Arlington, Texas and only fly in for games over the weekend.

That’s what makes events like this so important to DeFilippo and the warm welcome, that makes things even more special for the ‘Boats new coach.

“It was great. It was awesome. And the excitement, I’ve had people reach out to me online, through Facebook, on Twitter. It’s been awesome. And so I’ve been very, very welcomed here in town,: DeFilippo said. “I’ve been to Memphis, when I was coaching for the Philadelphia Eagles, we flew down here to work out Paxton Lynch, but had not spent a lot of time in Memphis. But it’s the barbecue. We had it today for the first time when I landed. It’s really, really good.  And I’m a coleslaw on the sandwich guy.”

Making friends already.
