Leigh Sears nets 250th win with Hope women's soccer

The Hope College women's soccer team defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 2-0 on Friday to open it sseason at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The win gave Hope coach Leigh Sears 250 wins as leader of the Flying Dutch.

Emma Dutmers scored a goal 1:14 into the game, then added another goal in the 22nd minute.

Parker Hutchinson made three saves in goal for the shutout.

Hope outshot the Thunder 5-3 with Wheaton goalie Lauren Ketchum making three saves, including two on Holland Christian graduate Madison Holloway.

MEN'S SOCCER

Hope 1, Hardin-Simmons 1

The Hope College men's soccer team tied Hardin-Simmons 1-1 in its home opener on Friday night at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Seth Walters scored the goal for Hope. Daniel Hesselbein made four saves in goal.

VOLLEYBALL

Hope wins two

The Hope College volleyball team defeated Hiram 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, then likewise dispatched Baldwin Wallace in three sets to open the season at the Great Lakes Crossover on Friday.
