"Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert" Anniversary Documentary Will Air After Festival Is Postponed

There will be no Coachella in Indio, California this April, as the popular music festival has been postponed until October because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, if you're bummed that you can't get your fix of artists like Frank Ocean, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lil Nas X or previous performers like BLACKPINK, Billie Eilish, and Beyoncé, you'll be happy to know that the folks at Coachella feel your pain. A new Coachella documentary special celebrating the festival's history is officially coming soon, perfect for keeping the good vibes flowing even while we're staying at home to protect ourselves and others.

"#StayHome. Tune in. Bringing the desert to you for a look back on 20 years of moments, artists and performances that defined Coachella," the festival announced on Twitter on March 30. They're calling it Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert and it's a full-on documentary about the previous 20 years of the majorly popular music festival: the highlights, the shocking moments, the joy of the crowd, and, of course, Beychella. Viewers will enjoy throwback performances, interviews, and behind-the-scenes tidbits about everything that makes Coachella so special and unique.

"Everybody knows what Coachella is," Billie Eilish says in the teaser. "Even if you don't care about music, you know." Everyone from Billie to the hologram of Tupac Shakur to Post Malone to President Barack Obama appears in the clips, which means this doc is going to be packed with goodness.

The documentary premieres exclusively on YouTube on April 10 at 12 p.m. PT — around when the festival would have taken place. The real Coachella is now set to take place over two weekends in October, the 9th and the 16th. While you may have a few months to wait until you can head out into the desert to see your faves hit the stage, you can enjoy "Couchella" in less than two weeks!
