Coachella Valley Alzheimer’s Association walk 2022 raises $167,000

More than 400 residents participated in this year’s Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley, which took place Oct. 29 at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. Participants raised more than $167,000 to support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The White Flower Team was this year's top fundraising group, raising nearly $23,000.

“Alzheimer’s is a horrific, fatal disease that is devastating families within our local communities,” said Meg Barron, regional leader and executive director, Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter. "The funds raised go a long way in supporting local programs and funding research studies we need to find a cure."

Participants honored those affected by Alzheimer’s as a part of the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.

The Walk Committee included Janie Bark, Bill Padgett, Mary Lou Green, Leann Dale, Richard Katz, Cortney Weir and Sylvia Baran.
