Coachella Valley Firebirds set all sorts of records in 8-3 win over San Jose Barracuda

The Coachella Valley Firebirds offense was clicking at a previously unseen level on Friday night as the desert's AHL team went on the road and defeated the San Jose Barracuda 8-3.

The eight goals are the most in Firebirds history, and this marks the team's fifth victory in a row, also a record. The five-goal difference is also the most lopsided win in the 18-game history of the AHL's newest team.

The Firebirds exploded out of the gate in this game against the San Jose Sharks affiliate, bolting to a 5-1 lead after the first period, their most goals in any period on the season. Kole Lind then scored two minutes into the second period to make at 6-1 and to give him a hat trick on the night. It was his second three-goal game of the season.

It was also a milestone night for captain Max McCormick, who was playing in his 400th career AHL game. And he celebrated in style, scoring two goals in the win.

The other three goals on the night came from Brogan Rafferty, John Hayden and Andrew Poturalski. The Firebirds' special teams were particularly hot, scoring four times on the power play and killing both penalties they faced. Joey Daccord was in net, only needing 13 saves to earn the victory.

With the win, the Firebirds are now 12-4-2 on the season, and they play again Saturday night on the road at the Bakersfield Condors (Oilers affiliate). The team is now just eight days away from its first home game, slated for Dec. 18 at Acrisure Arena against the Tucson Roadrunners (Coyotes affiliate).
