Coahoma softball team rolls to 17-0 blowout against Sonora

With a 16-run outburst in the first inning, the Coahoma High School softball team rolled to a 17-0 District 5-3A win at home against Sonora on Thursday.

The Bulldogettes collected 17 hits in the run-rule victory and held Sonora to one.

The Lady Broncos commited six errors.

Coahoma starter Avery Rodriguez picked up the win after striking out six in three innings. Shakira Villanueva took the loss for Sonora after giving up 15 hits and 17 runs in two innings.

Rodriguez also went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Karleigh Burt was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Shae Lang and Baylor Wright also drove in two runs apiece.

Madison Rodgers went 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, and Hannah Wells was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Brynn Rodgers was 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Coahoma (13-4-1 overall and 2-0 in district) was scheduled to play Bushland at Lubbock Christian University on Friday, followed by another nondistrict game on the road against Snyder on Saturday.
