‘Empowering gun owners’ important to owners of new MS Coast firearms business

An unlikely friendship brought two women together to open a new high-tech business in Long Beach.

Sarah Jackson Crane and Janette Luttrell held the grand opening Tuesday for Shooter Ready Firearms Simulation Training Academy at 528 Klondyke Road in Long Beach.

The new business is equipped with an advanced simulation system that provides real life scenarios for weapon target practice and fun games without live fire.

It also has live-fire facilities and training for beginner to advanced students and law enforcement.

They take walk-ins and appointments and Luttrell said they work with those who never touched a gun before up to law enforcement who need to run through their course of fire to renew their certification.

The cost to play games on the simulator and see if they can “stop the bad guy” is $20 for 20 minutes.

“Two people can split that,” she said. The cost is $50 for 50 minutes for two people, with an extra $10 per person charge if four people want to shoot together.

Customers also can book the range for a couple of hours, Luttrell said.

Among the many classes Shooter Ready offers is women’s only training and programs to teach young children to stay away from a gun.

“Through my work in the film industry as an armorer and as a firearms instructor, I am passionate about empowering gun owners to safely and effectively use their firearms for self-defense and recreation,” said Luttrell, who graduated from University of Southern Mississippi. Her interest in collecting firearms led to a career in the film industry as a prop master and gun armorer, which she began in 2005.

Crane moved with her husband to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2010 to be more centrally located for their classic car restoration business. In 2012, she founded Retro-Motive e-commerce automotive parts business and still is CEO.

“I purchased my first firearm in 2022 after my husband passed away,” Crane said. “I quickly realized I was not properly trained to safely handle that firearm,” she said. “I became a student of Janette Luttrell and quickly found a new passion for firearms.”

After many training sessions and conversations, the women decided to open their business.

Luttrell has a National Rifle Association certification to teach basic and advanced pistol courses. She is an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer and holds a United States Concealed Carry Association firearm certification for concealed carry and home defense. She has trained more than 1,200 students in basic and advanced pistol courses.

Shooter Ready is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Saturday for instruction, simulation activities and private parties.

The business is a distributor of dry-fire systems and sells pepper spray, ballistic shields for backpacks, concealed carry purses and packs, expandable batons and stun guns.

The phone number is 228-731-1911.
