Coast Guard ends search for woman swept into ocean after body found on Rialto Beach
The Coast Guard has ended its search for a 26-year-old woman who was swept into the ocean Monday.
A body matching the woman’s description was found on Rialto Beach near Olympic National Park, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.
The Coast Guard said it received a call at 10:50 a.m. Monday about a woman who was swept off Rialto Beach on the Olympic Peninsula.
Two Coast Guard helicopters and a crew on land, along with staff from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the La Push Tribal Police Department, and the national park participated in the search.
At around 5 p.m., park rangers said they had found the body of someone matching the missing woman’s description.
The National Weather Service in Seattle had issued a small craft advisory and a gale warning Monday along the coast for strong winds causing hazardous seas.
A powerful system was bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, below-average temperatures, and a wintry mix at higher elevations to parts of the Northwest, including Western Washington and Western Oregon, on Monday, the weather service said.
