Cobb water system reports wastewater spill into Lake Allatoona

Nov. 23—The Cobb County Water System reported Wednesday it released about 5.7 million gallons of substandard waste water into Lake Allatoona.

Under Georgia Environmental Protection Division regulations, the release is defined as a spill. The county said in a news release the water was disinfected, but did not specify how the water was substandard.

The spill was detected Wednesday during a routine sampling and has been reported to the EPD, the county said.

The spill has no impact on Cobb's drinking water system, according to county spokesman Ross Cavitt.
