Cobras take care of Bland

Jan. 9—PETERSBURG, Virginia — A healthy Caleb Mauldin paced Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute's basketball team on Saturday.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore returned from a lengthy injury layoff to hit 15 points, as the Cobras defeated Richard Bland College 82-75.

Caldwell (13-2) also got 14 points apiece from Marcus Metcalf and Jalen Miller. Toyas Solomon scored 12, while R.J. Black had nine.

The Cobras (1-0 in NCJCAA Region 10, Division 1) held a 42-40 halftime advantage.

Bland (9-8, 2-1) was led by Kevin West's 17-point effort. Martin Kaiwa added 16, while Noryen Lasley hit 14 and Larry Howell had 13.

The Cobras play host to Brunswick on Saturday, with a 3 p.m. tip-off at the Cobra Pit.
