Cobras hold on for victory

Jan. 30—HUDSON — After losing an 11-point advantage built early in the second half, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute's basketball team saw itself trailing by five with 3:30 remaining.

The Cobras regrouped to edge Richard Bland College last Friday evening 62-61 in NCJCAA Region 10 District 1 action at the Cobra Pit.

Pharrell Boyogueno's two free throws with 52 seconds to accounted for the game's final offensive production.

R.J. Black drained six 3-pointers, three in each half, to pace the Cobras (17-2, 5-0) with 18 points.. Marcus Metcalf added 11.

Martin Kawa and Larry Howell hit 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Statesmen (9-11, 2-3).

Caldwell was in control 32-22 at intermission, and increased that cushion to 41-30 at the 15:00 mark. Bland found itself in front 59-54, before the home team's late rally.

Boyogueno scored eight, as did teammate Linwood Grandy. Caleb Mauldin and Jalen Miller tossed in six apiece.

The Cobras hit the court again on Saturday, with a visit from Gaston Tech. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
