Cobras run win streak to 20

Mar. 30—MONTREAT — Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute's baseball team swept a double-header over Montreat College's junior varsity on Wednesday.

The Cobras took the opener 8-2, and prevailed in the finale 11-8, to run their winning streak to 20.

Cody Smart earned the win on the mound in the opener, striking out 19 in six innings. He was touched for three hits, yielding two earned runs and walked three.

Hayden Setzer batted 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Breon Ishmael was 2 for 2 with pair of RBIs and run as he reached safely in all four at-bats.

Bo Davidson had two hits and plated a score. Dalton Stikeleather and Isaiah Kirby each doubled.

Max Mull was the winning pitcher in the second game, going three shutout innings of relief. He allowed one hit and fanned two.

Steven Smith closed the final inning for the save. He fanned two and walked one.

Josh Nichols hit 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Evan Johnson went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs while reaching safely five times.

Cameron Pyle was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Koby McCall totaled two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Aaron Gaines also plated a run.

The Cobras (24-2) visit Surry on Saturday with first pitch at 3 p.m. There is a Sunday double-header at 1 P.M. between the teams at Walker Stadium.
