University of South Carolina mascot Cocky’s gameday reveal is getting a new look for the 2023 football season.

“There is a new entrance for Cocky this year,” Todd Ellis, former USC quarterback and the play-by-play voice for football games, said Thursday on the first Carolina Calls radio show of the year. “You guys are gonna be blown away by it. Marketing has done their business, and Cocky will be appropriately introduced at Williams-Brice Stadium.”

South Carolina’s first home game is 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 against Furman on SEC Network Plus and ESPN+.

Previously, Cocky has been brought out onto the field in a magic box of sorts and hidden behind a black curtain. Cocky is unveiled during the crescendo of the Gamecocks’ famous “2001” entrance and moments before the USC football players run onto the field.

So what should Cocky’s new entrance be? Let’s assume the black-curtain presentation is going away. The new entrance also has to be easy to clean up and move out quickly — and not do damage to the field.

Here are some ideas. Vote below on which one is your favorite:

Big-stage Cocky: Think a slow rise up through an elevated, concert-like stage right as “2001” hits its crest.

WWE Cocky: Could you see USC’s mascot strut through Goldberg’s pyro? We could.

Zip-line Cocky: This might work with the right launching point.

Bungee Cocky: It’s risky, and there’s no clear path from the higher decks to the field.

Cannon Cocky: Launching Cocky in 3, 2, 1 .....

Military Cocky: March on in, with flair and a helmet. It’s giving Cock Commander vibes.

Hatching Cocky: How about a dramatic hatch every single home game? Pyro is a bonus.

War Eagle Cocky: Sorry, Auburn. This bird can fly too.
