Cocoa, Holy Trinity sweep Thursday district track and field meets
Xavier Holmes won two individual events and ran on a winning relay Thursday at Astronaut High as Cocoa High's boys joined the girls team in winning District 8-2A track and field championships.
Alayezia Williams won the long jump for the Tiger girls, clearing 17 feet, 10 1/4 inches; the triple jump (36-11) and the 100-meter hurdles in 14.63 seconds.
Holmes took the long jump with a leap of 22-11 1/4 and won the 200 meters in 22.17 seconds. Liana Tyson took the 100 meters for the girls in 11.98 seconds. She added the 200 in 24.19 and helped the 4x100 relay to a 46.81-second victory.

Astronaut's boys and girls both finished second in the team standings. Faith Chase won three throwing events for the War Eagles, throwing the discus 78 feet, 8 inches, the javelin 104-6 and taking the shot put with a mark of 49-11 1/2.
Astronaut hosts the 2-2A regional meet on May 3.
Holy Trinity swept the District 8-1A meet on its home facility. Evelyn VanZwieten won the discus (114-10), shot put (33-5 3/4) and javelin (128-11).
