Code Blue alert issued by the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services till Monday

A Code Blue alert has been issued by the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services extended until Monday, Jan 22, because of decreasing temperatures.

The alert started Sunday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. and is set to end Monday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. A Code Blue alert is issued when weather conditions meet criteria in which the risk of severe or life-threatening exposure-related injuries is significantly higher than normal.

In an email to the Lebanon Daily News, Bob Dowd, director of the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services, said the reasons for a Code Blue alert are that:

  • Temperature is predicted to fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for a sustained period of two hours or more and/or the wind chill is predicted to be 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below for two hours or more.

  • Sustained temperatures will be below freezing, with predictions estimating greater than 8 inches of snow accumulation in a relatively short period of time.

During a Code Blue alert, individuals and families who are homeless are encouraged to contact the following entities for assistance in finding temporary overnight accommodations:

  • Lebanon County Crisis Intervention, open all hours, located at 209 Hathaway Park, Lebanon, PA 17042 (717-274-3363).

  • Lebanon County Community Action Partnership, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, located at 220 E. Lehman St., Lebanon, PA 17046 (717-273-9328).
