'Coexisting with alligators' and Learning Leland highlight 10 upcoming Brunswick events
Hearts + Arts fundraiser
Sunset River Gallery will host Hearts + Arts fundraiser to benefit, Lower Cape FearLifeCare (nonprofit provider of hospice, palliative, and grief care). The fundraiser will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 2 at the gallery at 10283 Beach Drive, SW, Calabash.
Tickets are $20 per person and will include entertainment by After Hours jazz ensemble, heavy hors d’oeuvres by local chef Philip Laura, complimentary wine bar and a fine art silent auction. Tickets are available through the gallery. Checks and cash only.
The fine art silent auction will feature works by some of the area's most acclaimed artists which features oil paintings, acrylic abstracts, acrylic still life, stained glass colored floral panel, pottery pieces, and more. There's also a $1,000 gift certificate available for a photo session with Vann Fine Art Portraits of Elizabethtown.

Sandbar lecture: Coexisting with alligators
The Museum of Coastal Carolina presents "Sandbar lecture: Coexisting with alligators" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30 at 21 East Second St., Ocean Isle Beach.
John Henry Harrelson with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will give a presentation on alligators.
Harrelson is a North Carolina native, raised in the rural, northern piedmont area. Harrelson attended North Carolina State University for undergraduate and Louisiana State University for his master’s degree, both in wildlife management. He has been a professional biologist for 13 years.

Get to Know Your Government: Learning Leland
Leland residents are invited to learn about public safety at the town's education initiative, Get to Know Your Government: Learning Leland.
Participants will learn about the work and mission of the Police, Fire/Rescue, and Emergency Management departments.
The forum will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 1 in the council chambers at Town Hall, located at 102 Town Hall Drive.
The goal of this initiative is to is to engage more with community members and help bridge the understanding of how their local government works.

Juried Art Show and Sale
The Art League of Leland will host its ALL Art, fourth annual juried art show and sale, June 1-3 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, 1212 Magnolia Village Way.
The event is free and open to the public 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Rick Conn, a resident of Wilmington and program chair of Visual Arts at Cape Fear Community College, will be the official juror.
Artwork on display will include photography, oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, glass, pastel, mixed-media, ceramics and much more, from artists from the Lower Cape Fear region.

Oak Island concert series
The Oak Island "Bands by the Beach" concert series will have Christine Martinez Band performing rock music, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 2 at the Middleton Park Amphitheater, 102 SE 47th St. Free.
Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert
Come to the Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert, also known as the Peggy Hughes Concert Series, and listen to dance and party tunes by Uptown Easy. The band will play 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, June 2 at Town Center Park, 11 E Second St. Free.

Ships of the Cape Fear River: Photography exhibit
Leland artist Cathryn Jirilds' will have an exhibit opening on Friday, June 2, in conjunction with the First Friday Gallery Walk in Southport.
Ships of the Cape Fear River: Photography exhibit begins at 10 a.m. and a reception will be 5-7 p.m. at the Franklin Square Gallery, 130 E. West St., Southport. The photos represent beautiful life-like images and eye-catching abstracts of the large and small ships along the Cape Fear River.
Jirilds' work also will be displayed 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, June 3-29 at the Intracoastal Realty Southport office, located at 122 N. Howe St.
Belville Food Truck Rodeo
Belville Parks and Recreation Department presents its first Belville Food Truck Rodeo, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at the Belville Riverwalk Park, 580 River Road, Belville. Rain or shine.

Holden Beach Concert Series
It's time to boogie once again at the Holden Beach Concert Series. Continental Divide performs 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday, June 4 at the pavilion under the Holden Beach Bridge. Refreshments available for purchase. Bring a chair or beach towel. Free. 910-842-6488.
Paws-Ability's BandFest
Paws-Ability's will hold its sixth BandFest, noon-5 p.m. Sunday, June 4, to support animal welfare programs in Brunswick County. The BandFest will be held at Sunset Beach Town Park, 206 Sunset Blvd N, Sunset Beach.
There will be listening and dancing music to two fantastic bands — the Sea & Sand Band and the Jan Michael Fields Band. Children and pets welcome.
There will be food and beverage trucks, and vendors.
