A new coffee bar opens in Rock Hill. Here’s how to get a free drink this weekend

Clutch Coffee Bar will open in Rock Hill with free drinks.

A soft opening this week leads to a grand opening event Saturday with free drinks for visitors. The new store is at 2027 Celanese Dr., near the Celanese intersection with Mt. Gallant Road.

Rock Hill opens the second South Carolina store for Clutch Coffee. One opened earlier this year in Columbia. There are five North Carolina locations for the company. Clutch Coffee started in that state in 2018.

Company founder Darren Spicer said the Rock Hill store has been a long time coming and there’s excitement this week with the soft launch Thursday and Friday during what will be the store’s typical 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. hours. Grand opening Saturday will run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Spicer said customers will notice what makes Clutch different.

”More than anything is the customer experience,” Spicer said. “It’s 180 degrees from your usual drive-thru places.”

Runners will work down the drive-thru line to take customer orders. There’s more window interaction than at other drive-thru places, Spicer said. Also, custom made premium espresso blend and flavored energy drink options will show quality. The third area Spicer hopes to excel, is speed.

”Our goal is a minute or less per car,” Spicer said. “We’re there to serve you. Our job is to get you in and get you caffeinated and on your way to tackle whatever it is you have to tackle.”

The drive-thru coffee bar concept has a menu of hot, iced or frozen lattes and mochas, energy drinks, smoothies, shakes and juices. There are typical coffee and tea options, too. Food options include breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

Opening week activities include complimentary drop offs for teachers and first responders. Clutch Coffee gives back to a variety of community causes and has an online form where customers can submit causes or organizations for consideration.

”We’re really big on giving back to the community, locally,” Spicer said.

In addition to the free 16-ounce drinks on Saturday, customers who download the app by that day have a chance to win free coffee for a month. For more, visit clutchcoffeebar.com.

With now two South Carolina spots, Clutch intends to add at least two more with one each in Lextington and the Greenville area.
