Coffee, burgers, beer, theater. Longtime draw in Kansas City’s Westport is for sale
Westport Coffeehouse, in a freestanding building just within the boundaries of the entertainment district, is for sale.
Founders and owners Tom and Pam Ptacek plan to retire.
“I think it is a great opportunity for someone to come in. There are a lot of good things going on in Westport,” she said.
The 7,064-square-foot building at 4010 Pennsylvania Ave. is listed by Block & Co. Inc. Realtors for $1.6 million.
The Ptaceks opened Westport Coffeehouse in 1996 as an “honest neighborhood cafe.”
They soon added an entertainment venue on the lower level — hosting plays, comedy, live jazz and other shows. It seats nearly 100 people.
Their Green Room Burgers & Beer opened on the lower level in 2012 with its own entrance. It sells craft beers, hand-smashed burgers, fries, chicken tenders and its own beers.
The cafe serves breakfast wraps, cinnamon rolls, eggs, hash browns, sandwiches such as the Mission Hills (with turkey, pepperoni, mozzarella, cream cheese, red onion, spinach and tomato), BLTs and gyros.
“It’s going to be a real adjustment for us for sure,” Pam Ptacek said. “Every day going in and taking care of things. But we have seven ‘grandbabies’ that we want to spend time with.”
