Coffey break: Country singer's Allsup's show Saturday, and more this week in Abilene

Country singer Coffey Anderson is back in the area for another Allsup's convenience store grand re-opening, this time in Abilene.

Anderson, who performed in Tuscola in late March, will be on an outdoor stage at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Allsup's at 2550 S. Clack St.

There is no admission charge. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets - the show will be set up on the parking lot at the location.

Anderson grew up in Bangs and has been touring Texas for Allsup's openings. He will be in Merkel on June 24 for an opening there and in Breckenridge on Sept. 3.

His popular songs include the patriotic "Mr. Red, White and Blue."

Quilting time at convention center

The Abilene Quilters Guild will present its 28th annual Stars Over Abilene Regional Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St.

More than 100 quilts will be on display, and three quilts being raffled off to benefit Operation Blue Santa, Houses for Healing and Food Bank of West Central Texas..

Admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for ages 62 and older and free for children younger than 12. For information, go to abilenequiltersguild.net.

Book sale

The annual Friends of the Abilene Public Library book sale will begin with a members-only sale from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St., with memberships available at the door.

The sale will continue for the general public 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 18, capping off with the annual "Bag-O-Books" sale from 1-4 p.m. June 19, when paper sacks of books will be sold for $6.

Children's Art and Literacy Festival

The 10th annual Children's Art & Literacy Festival, which began Thursday, will continue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday with events including shows, live theater, book readings, demonstrations and a petting zoo.

Parade of Homes

The Big Country Home Builders Association's annual Parade of Homes will be open from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and June 18-19 at 19 homes in Abilene.

Philharmonic concert

The Abilene Philharmonic will present a Beatles tribute concert, "Classical Mystery Tour," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St.

BeatlesFest

The 12th annual BeatlesFest will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Play Faire Park, 2300 N. Second St., featuring two nights of local musicians presenting their takes on Beatles classics.

Rodeo finals

The Texas High School Rodeo Association state finals will continue at 8 a.m. Friday at the Taylor County Expo Center, with awards presentations starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
