A cold front is coming to South Texas. Here's what to expect.

A strong cold front will blow freezing temperatures across the Coastal Bend beginning Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.

Strong winds were expected to bring chilly temperatures to the region, with wind chills as low as 30 in some coastal areas. Cold, dry air will continue through Saturday, with a light freeze possible in the northern Brush Country and Victoria Crossroads, according to the National Weather Service.

A gale watch was issued for the area as strong north winds up to 40 knots were possible Thursday and Friday. Seas could reach up to 11 feet.

Cold but sunny conditions will continue through Sunday. Daily highs may be between 55 and 70 before dipping into the 40s and 50s at night. According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, Saturday morning's wind chill could be in the low 20s to 30s for the majority of South Texas.

Due to the cold, the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority will offer free transportation to and from city warming centers.

On Friday, CCRTA will provide transportation to and from The Salvation Army at 1804 Buford St. The Salvation Army will open its doors from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday. Those who seek overnight shelter may receive dinner and breakfast, according to the CCRTA.

Free transportation will also be provided to and from La Retama Central Library at 805 Comanche St. on Saturday. The library will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To receive free transport, notify the bus operator when boarding. Current B-Line customers may also receive free transportation to the overnight shelter or warming center by calling 361-289-5881.

The area will begin to thaw early next week with rain chances that will begin Monday night. Another cold front is expected to reach the area on Tuesday.
