Cold front, rain this weekend will provide brief relief to North Texas record-breaking heat

After weeks of what seems like early-summer temperatures with highs in the upper 90s and feeling like over 100 degrees, spring will be back in the forecast with temperatures dropping into the 70s and rain expected in North Texas this weekend.

But first, record-breaking heat is expected to continue throughout this week in Dallas-Fort Worth, with temperatures in the upper 90s until Friday night.

“On Monday, DFW’s streak of consecutive days of at least 90 degrees reached 10 days,” the National Weather Service said. “This is the longest such streak this early in the year. For the month to date, 2022 is the warmest on record.”

By late Friday, residents can expect a break from the extreme heat, as a cold front will sweep through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex dropping temperatures into lows in the 60s and highs in the low 80s or high 70s.

“Showers and storms shift east across the region Friday night into Saturday, then shift southeast Saturday night,” the National Weather Service said. “Much cooler air enters behind a cold front.”

The weather service also added that there’s a possibility for some severe storms with gusty winds and hail, but that more details would become available as we near the weekend.
