Cold temperatures, wind chills expected to continue into Saturday for Mohawk Valley

Though a wind chill advisory ended 10 a.m. Friday, a hazardous weather outlook still is in place in southern Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties as the National Weather Service warns of below zero temperatures overnight.

While wind chill is not expected to be much of a factor in southern Oneida and Madison counties, temperatures are forecast to drop between 5 to 15 degrees below zero Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.

In Utica, temperatures are predicted to drop to negative 8 degrees early Saturday morning, with a wind chill of negative 17.

In Herkimer County, dangerously cold wind chills are possible again overnight, and a wind chill advisory may be needed despite light winds, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.

Forecasters advise wearing proper clothing outdoors, including hats, gloves and insulated footwear, and to be aware of issues such as pipes freezing.
