Cold weather school closings, schedule changes

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — We’re tracking wintry weather moving in Monday night, which is expected to produce light freezing rain or freezing drizzle.

Here we are keeping track of school schedule changes in response to the weather forecast. We will update this list as we learn more. (Check back for updates!)

Mobile County, Ala. Public Schools

On Monday afternoon, the Mobile County Public School System posted to their social media accounts that they were canceling school on Tuesday.

Baldwin County, Ala. Public Schools

Baldwin County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. School will start late at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Gulf Shores City Schools

Gulf Shores City Schools will be open on Tuesday. A decision about school on Wednesday will be made later.

Monroe County, Ala. Public Schools

Monroe County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. A decision about class on Wednesday will be made later.

Monroe Academy

Monroe Academy will be closed on Tuesday. A decision about Wednesday will be made later.

Clarke County, Ala. Schools

Some schools in Clarke County will be closed on Tuesday. Those schools include:

  • All Clarke County Public Schools

  • Clarke Preparatory School

  • Jackson Academy

Thomasville, Ala. Schools

All Thomasville city schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Washington County, Ala. Schools

All Washington County Public Schools will have a virtual learning day on Tuesday.

Chickasaw City Schools

Chickasaw City Schools will be closed Tuesday ahead of the wintry weather. There will possibly be a delayed start to school on Wednesday.

Conecuh County, Ala. Public Schools

Conecuh County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. A decision on school being in session on Wednesday has not been made yet.

Shelton Academy

Shelton Academy will be closed on Tuesday.

Saraland City Schools

Saraland City Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Satsuma City Schools

Satsuma City Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Mobile County Private Schools

St. Luke’s Episcopal School: St. Luke’s will have out-of-uniform days on Tuesday and Wednesday for the weather. The school has also delayed its opening for Tuesday. The Japonica Campus will open at 9:45 a.m., and the University Campus will open at 10 a.m.

St. Paul’s Episcopal School: St. Paul’s will not open until 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Government Street Christian School: GSCS and the Child Development Center will be closed on Tuesday.

Faith Academy: Faith Academy will be closed on Tuesday and reopen on Wednesday.

Greene County, Miss. Public Schools

All Greene County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

George County, Miss. Public Schools

George County Public Schools are closed on Tuesday.

Escambia County, Ala. Public Schools

All Escambia County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. A decision for Wednesday has not been made.

Mobile County Catholic Schools

All Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Mobile will have a delayed start time on Tuesday. Each start time will be site-specific.

Mobile-area colleges and universities

University of Mobile: All in-person classes will move to an “online format” on Tuesday. The dining hall will be open during normal hours. The university is planning to resume in-person classes Wednesday.

Coastal Alabama Community College: CACC will be closed on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the college will have a delayed opening of 9:30 a.m.

Bishop State Community College: BSCC will be closed on Tuesday. The college will open at noon on Wednesday.

Spring Hill College: All classes will move to remote learning on Tuesday. The cafeteria will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Faulkner University: The university will be closed on Tuesday.

University of South Alabama: The start of classes and opening of offices has been delayed to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Fresh Food Company in the dining hall will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Any further updates will be sent by 9 a.m. Tuesday.
