Cold weather shelters to open in Volusia County

People that need shelter from the cold in Volusia County have a couple of options starting tonight.

Temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees this weekend, according to a Volusia County government news release.

The Neighborhood Center’s Bridge shelter at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand will offer shelter each evening tonight through Monday. People can arrive at 6 p.m. each evening and stay until 8 a.m. the next day. For information, people can call 386-734-8120, ext. 601.

Also, Halifax Urban Ministries will coordinate sheltering with churches for evening stays tonight and Saturday. People who need shelter can contact them at 386-317-5886. Votran buses will be available at 5:15 p.m. tonight and Saturday at 340 North St. in Daytona Beach to take people to cold weather shelters.
