What is the coldest month in North Texas? How low temperatures can get?

Cold weather has started to grip Dallas-Fort Worth for Thanksgiving week, and it’s not getting warmer anytime soon with lows in the 30s in the forecast.

Winter is technically a month away, but the lowest temperatures likely won’t be felt until January, which is the coolest month in North Texas. According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the mean temperature in January is 46 degrees, with an average high of 57 degrees and average low of 36 degrees.

During the first month of the year, the highest recorded temperature in the Metroplex was 93 degrees in 1911, and the lowest recorded was -2 degrees in 1949. The lowest recorded temperature at any time, however, happened in February 1899, when it reached -8 degrees in the Metroplex.

December is the second coldest month in DFW, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, with the mean temperature being 48 degrees, the average high 58 degrees and the average low 38 degrees. The hottest December day, when the temperature reached 90 degrees, happened in 1951. The coldest temperature in December was -1 in 1989.

February is the third chilliest, having a mean temperature of 51 degrees, with an average high of 61 degrees and an average low of 40 degrees. February 1904 saw the temperature reach 96 degrees, the highest recorded. The fourth and fifth coolest months in North Texas are November and March, respectively.
