Coldwater adds more summer events downtown

COLDWATER — More summer fun is coming to S. Monroe Street and downtown Coldwater.

The Coldwater City Council signed off on more events Monday to bring more people downtown and increase the party atmosphere for locals and visitors.

Monroe Street was designated four years ago for street events.

The council approved closing Hanchett Street and the Tibbits Parking lot for three Wednesday nights for a new series of street parties.

Two Bandits Brewing Company will close part of S. Hanchett Street between US-12 and W. Pearl Street on Wednesdays, June 21, July 12, and August 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. for Bikes ’N Brews night.

Owner Mark Young said, “We would like to establish an event during the summer to bring business downtown on a Wednesday night, when it is a bit slower.”

The brewery hosts a very successful similar event at its home Hicksville, Ohio location.

“Following through with our love of all things mechanical, we would envision a portion of Hanchett Street closed for the event to allow classic, vintage, sports and muscle cars, bicycles, motorcycles, vintage, sport, and cruiser, really anything with wheels,” Young said.

Two Bandits wants something fun that could draw a diverse crowd and pull in excitement and interest downtown, the brewery said in its application.

The area is part of the open container social district.

City manager Keith Baker said, “The events would not conflict with any scheduled performances at the adjacent Tibbits Opera House.”

Parts of Hanchett and Tibbits parking lot will be open for other public use.

The fourth year of “Hops on Monroe” kicks off June 29 and runs from 5 to 9 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 31, with craft beers, food trucks, musical entertainment and outdoor games.

Coldwater Noon Club will use S. Monroe Street for its 102nd Anniversary Party from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.

The street party is the second year for the event after using the Tibbits parking lot for its centennial anniversary in 2021. The club plans for a live band with food provided by local restaurants.
