Coldwater Golf finishes 5th at I-8 tournament, Galloway and Eberts earn All I-8 HM honors

BATTLE CREEK — The Coldwater Cardinal golf team traveled to Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Thursday to compete in the Interstate 8 conference championship tournament. Coldwater came away with a fifth place finish at the event after carding a team score of 370. With their conference tournament finish the final conference standings sees the Cardinals finish in sixth place in the Interstate 8 for the season.

Lumen Christi took to honors at the event with a total team score of 326, finishing just ahead of the Marshall Redhawks who finished in second place with a score of 328. Parma Western finished in third place, followed by Northwest, Coldwater, Harper Creek, Hastings, and Pennfield.

Team standings for the season saw Lumen Christi crowned Interstate 8 champions, followed by Marshall in second place. Northwest finished in third, followed by Harper Creek, Western, Coldwater, Pennfield and Hastings.

Coldwater was led on the night by senior Jett Galloway who carded a tremendous score of 82, which was good enough for fifth place overall, placing Galloway on the Interstate 8 All Tournament Team.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Talan Eberts who shot a 93, Kyle Sheppard with a 96, Rayce Johnson with a 99, Brady Arver with a 106, and Koletin Aldinger with a 106.

Medalist honors went to Harris Chapman of Marshall who carded a two over par 74.

Both Galloway and Eberts were named to the Interstate 8 All Conference Honorable Mention team for the 2022 season.

The individual I-8 conference title was claimed by Marshall’s Harrison Chapman who went the entire season in first place in the conference, finishing the year with a nine hole stroke average of 37.00. Also earning First Team All Conference honors was Joshua Baker of Lumen Christi, McLane Collin of Marshall, Isaac Anuszkiewicz of Northwest, Charlie Sanders of Lumen Christi, Adam Fuller of Lumen Christi and Brenden Stevens of Lumen Christi.

Interstate 8 Honorable Mention honors went to Owen Carroll of Hastings, Nash Hanchett of Lumen Christi, Brayden Goss of Marshall, Galloway of Coldwater, Joey Marino of Harper Creek, Carter Wong of Pennfield, Eberts of Coldwater, and Kamryn Banks of Northwest.

Coldwater soccer takes nail biter over Pennfield

BATTLE CREEK — The Coldwater Lady Cardinal soccer team took a nail biter over Pennfield on Thursday night, winning by the score of 2-1.

Coldwater’s goals came off the foot of Masyn Marsh and Cara Miller, with Miller’s goal assisted by Dani Jasso.

With the win Coldwater finishes off their 2022 regular season at 10-7 overall. The Cardinals will now look towards the first round of the MHSAA District tournament to be held next Thursday at Pennfield High School versus Pennfield.
