BATTLE CREEK, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal boys Swim and Dive team capped off their 2022-23 regular season on Saturday as they traveled to Lakeview to compete in the SMAC Championship.

Coldwater finished in eighth place out of 10 teams in the conference, with eight podium finishes in all.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Lucas Wischmeyer who made two trips to the podium, taking seventh place in both the 50 yard Freestyle and in the 100 yard Freestyle.

Cooper Otto also had a pair of podium finishes, taking sixth place in the 50 Freestyle and eighth place in the 100 Backstroke.

Also taking individual medals was Taylor Eberts who took sixth in the 500 Freestyle and Sam Pernia who finished in seventh place in the 1-meter Dive.

A pair of relay teams also brought home a medal, as the 200 Medley Relay team of Otto, Drake Thornton, Wischmeyer and Ian Stough finished in eighth place while the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Wischmeyer, Mason Grabowski, Thornton and Eberts finished in seventh place.

Also pacing the Coldwater effort at the SMAC Championship was Drake Thornton, tenth place in the 100 Breaststroke and fifteenth place in the 50 Freestyle; Ian Stough, fifteenth place in the 100 Backstroke and twenty-first place in the 100 Freestyle; Sam Larr, twenty-first place in the 500 Freestyle and twenty-third place in the 50 Freestyle; Mason Grabowski, twenty-second place in the 200 Individual Medley and thirteenth place in the 100 Butterfly; Kaz Lindblom, twenty-fourth place in the 50 Freestyle and twenty-third place in the 500 Freestyle; Taylor Eberts with a fifteenth place finish in the 200 Freestyle along with his podium finish in the 500 Freestyle; Brennen King, twenty-first place in the 100 Butterfly; Paul Skinkut, forty-seventh place in the 50 Freestyle; Charlie Gruner, twenty-eighth place in the 200 Individual Medley and twenty-seventh place in the 100 Breaststroke; and Brady Massey, thirty-second place in the 100 Breaststroke.

The Coldwater Dive team continues into the postseason on Thursday when Sam Pernia travels to Mason High School to compete in the MHSAA Dive Regionals.
