COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater swimming and diving team came up just a little short to kick off its new year on Thursday, falling to Adrian, 106-72.

Coldwater secured one individual win on the night as Sam Pernia took home the victory in the 1-meter dive.

The Cardinals also brought home a big win in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Drake Thornton, Lucas Wischmeyer, Cooper Otto and Taylor Eberts took top honors.

Thornton also had a solid night in the pool individually, taking second place in the 100 freestyle and second place in the 100 breaststroke.

Wischmeyer also had a solid night, adding a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle and a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle while Eberts took a pair of runner-up finishes, finishing in second place in the 200 freestyle and second place in the 500 freestyle.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Ian Stough, fourth place in the 50 freestyle and second place in the 100 backstroke; Charlie Gruner, sixth place in the 50 freestyle and fourth place in the 100 freestyle; Sam Larr, third place in the 100 backstroke; Kaz Lindblom, fourth place in the 200 freestyle; Mason Grabowski, fifth place in the 100 breaststroke; Otto, third place in the 200 individual medley and third place in the 100 butterfly; and Brennen King, fifth place in the 100 butterfly and fourth place in the 100 backstroke.

Coldwater will spend the next week honing its skills as the Cardinals next see action again next Thursday when they host Loy Norrix at the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center.
