Coldwater Swim takes 3rd at I-8 Invite; 200 Medley Relay, Pernia take home gold

BATTLE CREEK, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal boys Swim and Dive team traveled to Harper Creek on Saturday to compete in the Interstate 8 Conference Invite.

Coldwater came out of the event in a very respectable third place thanks in large part to two event wins and a number of event placements.

Coldwater secured one win in the relay portion of the day as the 200 yard Medley Relay team of Cooper Otto, Drake Thornton, Lucas Wischmeyer and Ian Stough took home the gold.

One other Cardinal ascended to the top of the podium as Sam Pernia took home first place in the 1-meter Dive.

Lucas Wischmeyer secured a pair of top 5 finishes, taking second place in the 50 Freestyle and fifth place in the 100 yard Backstroke while teammate Drake Thornton also secured two top five finishes, taking fourth place in the 50 Freestyle and second place in the 100 Breaststroke.

Also earning a pair of two five finishes was Taylor Eberts who finished in fifth place in the 200 Freestyle and third place in the 100 Freestyle and Cooper Otto who finished in second place in the 200 Individual Medley and fifth place in the 100 Backstroke.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Ian Stough, seventh place in the 50 Freestyle and sixth place in the 100 Freestyle; Sam Larr, eighth place in the 50 Freestyle and seventh place in the 100 Backstroke; Brady Massey, fifteenth place in the 50 Freestyle and eighth place in the 100 Breaststroke; Charlie Gruner, tenth place in the 200 Freestyle and eighth place in the 100 Freestyle; Mason Grabowski, seventh place in the 200 Individual Medley and seventh place in the 100 Butterfly; Kaz Lindblom, tenth place in the 50 Freestyle and seventh place in the 500 Freestyle; and Brennen King, thirteenth place in the 50 Freestyle and sixth place in the 500 Freestyle.

Coldwater will be back in action on Thursday when they host their final home meet of the 2022-23 season as they welcome the Lakeview Spartans to the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center.
