Coldwater Swim takes down Charlotte; Polar Bear Swim team finishes 3-1 in double dual

CHARLOTTE, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal boys swim and dive team made the trip to Charlotte on Tuesday to face off with the Orioles in an exciting night in the pool.

Coldwater was dominant nearly all night long, winning 10 of the 12 events, while every athlete scored at least one point in the Cardinals 99-70 victory.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Cooper Otto who took home a pair of individual wins, winning the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard Backstroke.

Lucas Wischmeyer also brought home a victory in the 50 Freestyle in addition to a second place finish in the 100 Butterfly, followed by Ian Stough who came home with a win in the 100 Freestyle along with a third place finish in the 50 Freestyle.

Sam Pernia was once again victorious in the 1-meter Dive while Taylor Eberts brought home a win in the long distance swim, winning the 500 Freestyle to go along with his second place finish in the 200 Freestyle.

Drake Thornton also brought home a win, besting the field in the 100 Breaststroke while also taking third place in the 200 Indiviudal Medley.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Sam Larr with a fourth place finish in the 50 Freestyle and a second place finish in the 100 Freestyle; Charlie Gruner, third place in the 100 Breaststroke; Kyler Houvener, fifth place in the 200 Freestyle and fourth place in the 500 Freestyle; Kaz Lindblom, third place in the 200 Freestyle and fourth place in the 100 Freestyle; Mason Grabowski, fourth place in the 200 Indiviudal Medley and third place in the 500 Freestyle; Brennen King, third place in the 100 Butterfly and third place in the 100 Backstroke; and Luke Marteen, fourth place in the 100 Backstroke.

The Coldwater Swim and Dive team will now enjoy their holiday break before returning to the pool on Jan. 5 with a home meet versus Adrian.

Coldwater Middle School Swim finishes 3-1 in double dual

COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Polar Bear Middle School Swim team had a busy night in the pool this past Monday, playing host to a double dual featuring Harper Creek and Portage Northern.

In the girls portion of the double dual the Polar Bear’s split, winning versus Portage Northern by the score of 94-58 but falling to Harper Creek 76-83.

The Polar Bear girls earned two state qualifying cuts in the meet, with Sidney Aseltine earning the nod in her win in the 50 yard Butterfly while the 200 yard Medley Relay team of Ambriah Lewis, Alexia Brakke, Aseltine and Korrin Brown also earned qualification.

Aseltine also added a win in the 100 Individual Medley along with her win in the 50 Butterfly while Ambriah Lewis brought home a win in the 100 Backstroke along with a third place finish in the 50 Freestyle.

Rounding out the Coldwater girls effort was Korrin Brown, third place in the 50 Butterfly and second place in the 100 Backstroke; Ava Motes, second place in the 200 Freestyle and third place in the 100 Freestyle; Alexia Brakke, fourth place in the 100 Individual Medley and second place in the 100 Breaststroke; Lilly Scheidler, eighth place in the 100 Individual Medley and seventh place in the 100 Breaststroke; Abby Paul, sixth place in the 50 Freestyle and fourth place in the 100 Backstroke; Harper Anglin, fourth place in the 50 Freestyle and ninth place in the 100 Freestyle; and Elizabeth Vogler, third place in the 200 Freestyle and fourth place in the 100 Freestyle.

In the boys portion of the double dual it was the Coldwater Polar Bears earning the sweep, beating Portage Northern 59-50 followed by a razor thin 55-53 win over Harper Creek.

The Polar Bear boys also earned a state qualification as Mason Sabaitis made the cut with his win in the 50 yard Freestyle, in addition to his win in the 100 yard Freestyle.

Ivan McConnell also had a big day in the pool, bringing home a pair of wins, taking first place in the 50 Butterfly and first place in the 100 Backstroke.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Everett Duff, sixth place in the 50 Freestyle; Wyatt Lanning, eighth place in the 100 Freestyle; and Noah Kopkowski, second place in the 100 Individual Medley and fifth place in the 100 Freestyle.

The Coldwater Polar Bears will now enjoy their holiday break before returning to action Jan. 11 when they head to Kalamazoo.
