COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal boys swim and dive team kicked off its 2022-23 season Thursday night with a home meet versus Mattawan. In the end, it was Mattawan taking home the victory, defeating Coldwater 101-66.

Swimming his way to an individual win was Drake Thornton who took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in addition to his second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.

Also notching a win for Coldwater was the 200 medley relay team of Thornton, Cooper Otto, Ian Stough and Lucas Wischmeyer.

Earning valuable points for Coldwater on the night was Lucas Wischmeyer with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle; Sam Larr, second place in the 100 backstroke and fourth place in the 100 freestyle; Charlie Gruner, third place in the 100 breaststroke and fourth place in the 50 freestyle; Kyler Houvener, fourth place in the 200 freestyle and third place in the 500 freestyle; Ian Stough, fourth place in the 100 backstroke and fifth place in the 100 freestyle; Leo Ortmann, sixth place in the 50 freestyle; Tayler Eberts, second place in the 200 freestyle and third place in the 100 freestyle; Cooper Otto, third place in the 200 IM and second place in the 100 butterfly; and Sam Pernia, second place in the 1-meter dive.

Coldwater will next see swimming action on Saturday when it competes in the Marshall Invite.
