MARSHALL, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal boys Swim and Dive team traveled to Marshall on Saturday to compete in the annual Marshall Invitational.

Coldwater struggled with a bout of illness spreading throughout the team, as a third of the team was forced to stay home due to sickness. Despite this the Cardinals were still able to come home with a fifth place finish, 21 points ahead of Marshall in sixth place and two points behind Battle Creek Central who finished in fourth place.

Every Coldwater boy who made the trip scored a point for the Cardinal effort, led by Sam Pernia who started off the day on the podium in the 1-meter Dive, taking fourth place.

Cooper Otto also made the podium for Coldwater, making two trips thanks to fourth place finishes in both the 200 yard Individual Medley and in the 100 yard Breaststroke.

Lucas Wischmeyer found his way to the podium with a fifth place finish in the 50 Freestyle while Taylor Eberts stood on the podium with a fifth place finish in the 500 Freestyle.

Also swimming well for Coldwater was Sam Larr, twelfth place in the 200 Freestyle and ninth place in the 100 Freestyle; Charlie Gruner with a tenth place finish in the 100 Backstroke and an eleventh place finish in the 200 Freestyle; Kyler Houvener with an eleventh place finish in the 500 Freestyle; Ian Stough, eighth place in the 100 Backstroke and eighth place in the 100 Freestyle; and Taylor Eberts, seventh place in the 50 Freestyle along with his fifth place finish in the 500 Freestyle.

Coldwater will next see action in the pool Thursday when they host a rematch versus Battle Creek Central at the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center.
