Coldwater XC competes in first I-8 Jamboree of the season; LMS XC also sees action

BATTLE CREEK, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal Cross Country team traveled to Harper Creek High School in Battle Creek on Tuesday to compete in the first Interstate 8 Jamboree of the season.In the girls portion of the competition it was Coldwater finishing in fifth place overall with a total team score of 144 points. Lumen Christi took top honors in the jamboree, winning with a score of 25 points thanks to three Titans finishing in the top four. Marshall finished in second place with 55 points, followed by Harper Creek, Parma Western, Coldwater and Pennfield.Coldwater’s effort was paced by sophomore Lainey Yearling who finished in fifteenth place overall after running the tough course in a time of 22 minutes, 7.7 seconds.Rounding out the Cardinal effort was Abigail Robison in thirty-first place in a time of 24 minutes, 36.8 seconds; Heidi Katz in fifty-seventh place in a time of 27 minutes, 49.7 seconds; Michaylee Croy in fifty-eighth place in a time of 28 minutes, 9.4 seconds; and Taylor West in sixty-fifth place in a time of 28 minutes, 40.6 seconds.In the boys portion of the event it was the Coldwater Cardinals taking sixth place overall with a score of 142 points. Marshall finished in first place with 44 points, followed by Parma Western in second place with 67 points, and Hastings in third place with 69 points. Harper Creek finished fourth with 100 points, followed by Lumen Christi, Coldwater, Pennfield and Northwest.The Cardinals had one runner finish in the top 10 and another take a spot in the top 20 to pace their effort.Senior Haroon Omar put together a solid run, taking fifth place overall in a time of 17 minutes, 20.9 seconds to kick off his Interstate 8 schedule.Finishing in the top 20 was junior James DeWitt who finished in seventeenth place overall in a time of 18 minutes, 44.1 seconds.Rounding out the Coldwater effort was Aiden Parker in forty-third place in a time of 20 minutes, 50.6 seconds; Ethan Woodcox, forty-fifth place in a time of 21 minutes, 8.4 seconds; Ethan Parker, forty-sixth place in a time of 21 minutes, 8.7 seconds; Skiler Horn, seventy-fourth place in a time of 25 minutes, 55.7 seconds; Kaleb Miller, seventy-fifth place in a time of 26 minutes, 2.1 seconds; and Kazzier Lindlbom, seventy-seventh place in a time of 26 minutes, 28.9 seconds.Coldwater will next see action on the course Friday when they head to the prestigious MSU Spartan Invitational held on the campus of Michigan State University.Coldwater Legg Middle School competes at Interstate 8 JamboreeBATTLE CREEK, MI. — The Coldwater Legg Middle School Cardinals also made the trip to Harper Creek High School to compete in their first Interstate 8 jamboree of the season.In the girls portion of the race it was the LMS Cardinals finishing in sixth place with 120 points. Western finished in first place with 44 points, followed by Harper Creek in second place with 78 points. Lumen Christi finished in third, followed by Hastings, Northwest, Coldwater LMS, Marshall and PennfieldLeading the LMS Cardinal effort was eighth grader Annika Johnson who finished in fifth place overall with a time of 14 minutes, 39.1 seconds over the two mile course. Also earning a top 20 finish was seventh grader Gwen Eby who finished in fifteenth place in a time of 15 minutes, 30.4 seconds. Rounding out the LMS effort was Ellerie Bucklin in twenty-fifth place in a time of 16 minutes, 16.3 seconds; Harper Anglin, thirty-sixth place in a time of 16 minutes, 56.6 seconds; and Elizabeth Newberry, eighty-eighth place in a time of 21 minutes, 41.8 seconds.In the boys portion of the event the LMS Cardinals did not field a full team but had some solid individual performances. Western took top honors in the jamboree with 22 points, with Northwest taking second place with 70 points. Harper Creek finished third, followed by Lumen Christi, Hastings and Marshall.Leading the Coldwater LMS boys effort was sixth grader Johan Aburto who finished in thirty-fourth place in a time of 14 minutes, 27.5 seconds. Rounding out the LMS effort was Joseph Searls, forty-fourth place in a time of 15 minutes, 21.3 seconds; Parker Hetrick, sixty-first place in a time of 16 minutes, 41.9 seconds; and Braylon Wood, seventy-sixth place in a time of 17 minutes, 43 seconds.
