Nov. 7—MERCER — Republicans Ann Coleman and Bill Finley Jr. won seats on the Mercer County Board of Commissioners, and incumbent Commissioner Timothy McGonigle will return for a third four-year term.

These are the first changes on the board since 2016.

Both Republican incumbents, Scott Boyd and Chairman Matt McConnell, declined to seek re-election to what would have been Boyd's third term and McConnell's fourth.

Four candidates were running for three seats. Ann Coleman garnered the most votes with 12,572, followed by Finley with 11,470 and McGonigle with 10,279. Democrat Jim McLusky came in fourth with 9,341 votes.

All results from Tuesday's election are unofficial pending canvassing by the county department of Elections and Voter Registration, and ratification of the county election board.

Coleman said she was very happy with all the support she received from around the county from all the voters.

"It's nice to see all the grassroots efforts really paid off," she said after the election. "We met a lot of people and really made an impact."

Coleman said her number one priority is to control costs in the county, especially in light of the ongoing county-wide property reassessment.

"We need to mitigate any major problems with the taxpayers on that," Coleman said.

Finley said he's very excited to have won a commissioner's seat.

"We're going to evaluate the state of affairs of the county and make sure the three elected work together as a team," Finley said. "Ann and I have a vision and we hope Mr. McGonigle will work with us as well."

Coleman said she appreciates the support she has received.

"I look forward to working with the distinct communities around the county to make sure we understand their priorities and assist where ever the county can be helpful," Coleman said.

Other county row offices

Republicans were unopposed in all of the county's other row office races — Mary Jo Basilone DePreta for clerk of courts, John Libonati for coroner, Peter C. Acker for district attorney, Tanya Williams for prothonotary, Dee Dee Zickar for recorder of deeds and Tim Callahan for sheriff.

All won election Tuesday.

Libonati, Acker, Williams and Callahan won Democratic nominations by write-in votes and were listed on Tuesday's ballot under both parties.

Except for Callahan, who is a deputy sheriff, and the two Republican commissioner nominees, all of the county row office candidates are incumbents.
