Colerain mass shooting trial: Jury to continue deliberations Thursday morning

Deliberations will continue Thursday morning in the trial of James Echols and Michael Sanon, two men accused of carrying out an attempted murder-for-hire at a Colerain Township residence in 2017.

Closing arguments were made Wednesday, which also marked the end of eight days of testimony.

Seth Hagaman, a former special agent with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, was the last witness called by the prosecution. Echols and Sanon did not testify and no witnesses were called by defense attorneys.

Echols, 26, and Sanon, 24, are facing 22 counts in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court including aggravated murder.

The charges stem from a mass shooting at Capstan Drive on July 8, 2017 that left a woman dead and eight others injured, including three children.

Roshawn Bishop, 31, of West Price Hill, another man facing murder charges in this case, testified last week that he paid Echols and Sanon $1,500 for their alleged role in the shooting.

A plea or trial setting hearing in Bishop's case is scheduled for Monday morning, court records show.

Bishop's cousin Vandell Slade, 33, of Columbus, is also charged with murder in connection with the shooting. He's accused of connecting Echols and Sanon to Bishop and driving the accused shooters to the scene.

The jury is expected to continue deliberations at 8:15 a.m. The case is being heard before Judge Robert Goering.
