Colerain Twp. reorganization involves Fairfield's Parks and Rec director

Finance director Jeff McElravy was promoted to one of two assistant township administrator positions in a reorganization move initiated by administrator Jeff Weckbach.

Former Fairfield Parks and Recreation director Tiphanie Mays was hired as the second assistant township administrator.

McElravy will be in charge of finance and development while Mays will head operations and engagement, including human resources.

Both begin their new positions Nov. 21. Each will earn $110,011 annually and received contracts through the end of 2024.

“As we went through the interview process, we saw two terrific candidates,’’ Weckbach said.

“I am extremely excited about the team we’re pulling together. I see tremendous things ahead for Colerain Township mainly because of these two hires. This will set us up for some great successes.”

The move will not result in any additional positions, Weckbach said. The assistant administrator position has been empty since he was promoted to administrator two months ago and the finance director position created by McElravy will not be filled.

Weckbach said McElravy’s past experiences in development before coming to Colerain Township in 2019 as finance director were a plus. Similarly, Mays experience in leading large scale capital projects and teams was a plus.

“Tiphanie has a unique background and skillset that will complement Jeff McElravy in his role and round out our team,’’ Weckbach said.

“Her background in recreation and capital projects will help us as we embark on our new strategic plan for 2023, which has a hyperfocus on large-scale construction efforts.”

Mays said it was difficult to leave Fairfield after four years as parks and recreation director.

“It’s bittersweet. I’m proud of my staff and how we’ve grown into a good team the last four years – we’ve done a lot of small projects that have made a big difference,’’ Mays said.

“This opportunity came up. It fell in my lap and I’m ready to take the next step. I’ve always been interested in going further in public service.”

For 17 years before going to Fairfield, Mays worked in Blue Ash’s parks and recreation department overseeing recreation, along with golf and event operations.

Before coming to Colerain Township, McElravy worked as managing director of Neyer Holdings Corporation/Saint Francis Group, and for nearly 11 years for Cincinnati including interim development director and downtown development manager.
