Colfax-Mingo places third, Baxter seventh at Pride of Iowa Girls Wrestling Tournament

Dec. 19—LIBERTY CENTER — Colfax-Mingo and Baxter competed in the Pride of Iowa Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday and the Tigerhawks and Bolts combined for eight top-three finishes.

Colfax-Mingo entered eight wrestlers in the event and placed third as a team with 96 points.

Baxter's four wrestlers produced 65 points and the Bolts tied for seventh in the 13-team field.

The area's lone bracket winner was C-M's Lily Webster. She won the 105-pound bracket with a 3-0 day. All three of her wins came by fall and she improved to 18-2 this season.

Baxter's Johnelle Gliem (115), Zoey Gliem (125) and Hope Good (190) and C-M's Emma Cook all placed second.

Johnelle Gliem and C-M's Devan Chadwick both were 1-1 at 115. Gliem (7-3) placed second after winning her first match by fall. Chadwick (12-9) lost her first match but won her second by fall.

Zoey Gliem and C-M's Amelia Strickland finished second and third, respectively, at 125. Both grapplers won twice and lost once. Gliem started with two wins by fall and Strickland ended her day with two wins by fall.

Three area wrestlers competed at 190. Good placed second with two first-period pins, while C-M's Joslyn Dawson was third and Kaydence Andersen placed sixth.

Dawson (13-7) lost her first match 8-6 to Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas' Sturgis Fridley but scored three wins by pin to end her day. The final pin came in a rematch against Fridley.

A pair of Tigerhawks also competed at 235. Cook (15-3) was the runner-up after starting her day with two pins and Lily Arndt finished 0-2.

At 130, C-M's Lillie Jones was fifth. Jones had two wins by pin and went 2-2 overall. Baxter's Ahlyvia Epps placed fourth at 105 but did not win a match.

CAM won the team championship with 133.5 points and Creston (115) placed second. The rest of the top five included Colfax-Mingo (96), Clarke/Murray (85) and Ballard (83).
