Colin Kaepernick Denies Approving Travis Scott’s Super Bowl Halftime Appearance

Kaepernick's girlfriend tweets “There is NO mutual respect and there is NO understanding,” Kaepernick retweets it

In December, it was revealed that Travis Scott would perform at the Super Bowl LIII halftime show alongside Maroon 5. Scott's decision was controversial, given many artists' boycott of the show in support of former quarterback and political activist Colin Kaepernick, who has been blacklisted from the league due to his peaceful protests of police violence against people of color. (He is currently suing the NFL.)

Earlier this week, Scott revealed in a statement that he partnered with the NFL to make a $500,000 donation to the social justice-advocacy organization Dream Corps, writing, “I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.” Yesterday, Variety published a report that Scott had a conversation with Kaepernick regarding the halftime performance and that while the two did not see eye-to-eye, they “emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding.”

Now, Kaepernick has denounced that report, retweeting activist and radio personality Nessa (who is also his partner), who wrote, “There is NO mutual respect and there is NO understanding for anyone working against Kaepernick PERIOD. #stoplying”. He also retweeted Ebro Darden “Kap did not approve this bullshit! Get the fuck outta here....,” and more. Find the tweets that he retweeted below.

Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Travis Scott for more information.

Big Boi was also announced as a performer at the Super Bowl LIII halftime show.
