College baseball: Warriors fall to Yellowjackets at super regional

May 20—ST. CLOUD — The Ridgewater College baseball team suffered through one bad inning in its first-round game at Super Regional XIII on Thursday at Dick Putz Field.

Rochester Community & Technical College scored seven runs in the second inning on the way to a 9-2 victory over Ridgewater.

Ridgewater (16-19) moves into the losers' bracket at 2:30 p.m. Friday in St. Cloud. The Warriors play Central Lakes College. St. Cloud Technical & Community College beat Central Lakes 2-0. St. Cloud plays Rochester at 6 p.m. Friday

At stake in the double-elimination tournament is a berth in the NJCAA Division III World Series in Greeneville, Tennessee.

Rochester (29-12) is the top seed in the tournament. Ridgewater was the seventh seed.

The Yellowjackets lashed out for 14 hits. Blake Schilling went 4-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI for Rochester. He's a sophomore outfielder from Lewiston-Altura. Gustavo Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI for Rochester. Gonzalez is a freshman from Sarasota, Florida.

For Ridgewater, Brad Bickmann went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He's a freshman from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. Reece Schwirtz took the loss on the mound for the Warriors, going four innings. Sam Lenarz, the freshman from Benson, finished up with two scoreless innings.

The Warriors had 10 hits.
