Carter Hendricksen is on a tear, not too long after he was in a frightful slump.

The University of North Florida senior forward is averaging 22.2 points over his last four games – highlighted by a career-high 35 points on Jan. 19 in a 90-85 victory over Queens at UNF Arena – and is shooting lights-out figures of 59.6 percent from the floor (31 of 52) and in a rarity, even better from beyond the 3-point arc at 68 percent (17 of 25).

In his first four ASUN games, Hendricksen shot 33.3 overall (15 of 45), 26.3 on 3-point attempts (five of 19) and averaged 13.0 points per game.

He’s now averaging 15.5 points per game and is shooting 43.3 overall and 33.9 on 3-point attempts. All three are on track to be career-highs.

Hendricksen surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season and he’s got his sights set on other career marks. He passed Garrett Sams for fifth all-time in school history for 3-pointers made (242) and is tied with Beau Beech for fourth on the career school list in rebounds with 672.

He moved past Sams with his 124th game on Saturday in a 73-62 loss to Liberty and shooting slump or not, he has 12 consecutive double-digit scoring games

Hendricksen has posted 12-straight double-digit scoring games, a career-best.

Liberty went 2-0 in its final road trip to the First Coast. The Flames preceded their victory over the Ospreys by ending JU’s 21-game home winning streak, 66-52.

Both teams are on the road this week, at Central Arkansas and North Alabama. That’s the prelude to River City Rumble week, at JU on Feb. 2 (7 p.m.) and at UNF on Feb. 4 (5 p.m.).

The women’s River City Rumble is this week, at JU on Thursday (7 p.m.) and at UNF on Saturday (2 p.m.). But neither team is coming into the crosstown rivalry with momentum: The Ospreys have lost three in a row and the Dolphins four of five.

JU leads the series 25-13 but has lost five of the last seven meetings.

Men

Player of the week: Hendricksen scored 49 points and shot 16 of 24 overall and nine of 13 from the 3-point arc in UNF’s home split with Queens and Liberty. In the victory over Queens, he added 10 rebounds, two assists (including on a dunk by Jarius Hicklen to seal the game) and one steal. It was his second double-double of the season.

Stat line of the week: Edward Waters center Jonathan Kanyanga had 12 points, eight rebounds and nine blocked shots in an 80-70 loss at Savannah State. He made all six of his shots from the floor.

Noting UNF (8-12, 3-5 ASUN): After their victory over Queens, the Ospreys had a game as dreary as the weather on Saturday with the loss to Liberty. It was the first home loss to the Flames in UNF history. … UNF plays its next three games on the road but the third game in that stretch will be at Jacksonville on Feb. 2. … The Ospreys had won nine in a row at home before Saturday.

Noting JU (11-8, 4-4 ASUN): The Dolphins bounced back from their home loss to Liberty on Thursday by beating Queens 77-70 on Saturday. … Senior guard Kevion Nolan rallied from shooting three of 12 for nine points against the Flames to hit for 20 against the Royals, along with six rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Jordan Davis scored 16 points, sophomore guard Gyasi Powell had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists and junior forward Osayi Osifo had 15 points and seven rebounds. ... Powell, a Bishop Snyder graduate, is shooting 50 percent and averaging 12.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals in his last four games.

Noting Edward Waters (3-13, 2-9 SIAC): The Tiger had some standout individual performances in two losses. Sophomore guard Tavares Oliver scored 31 points and made seven of 16 3-point attempts in a 74-67 loss to visiting Fort Lauderdale and senior center Larry Kuimi had 22 points, eight rebounds and shot nine of 12 from the floor in the loss to Savannah State.

Noting Trinity Baptist (9-5, 2-0 NCCAA South Region II): The Eagles won their seventh game in a row, beating Pensacola Christian 76-58. Five players scored in double figures, led by sophomore forward Jacquez Anderson with 14. Sophomore center Fausto Alvarez, a Bartram Trail graduate, had seven points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. ... The Eagles play their next five games on the road and don’t return home until Feb. 7.

Noting Flagler (9-10, 3-5 Peach Belt): The Saints broke a two-game losing streak in Augusta on Saturday with an 89-75 romp over the Jaguars. Sophomore guard Chase Fiddler scored seven points in a row at one point in the second half to give the Saints their largest lead at 79-58 and he finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Malik Bryant had 25 points and sophomore guard Jaylen Lemons 17. … In a 76-64 loss at home to North Georgia on Wednesday, the Saints had 19 turnovers and shot 43.1 percent. Junior guard Kyle Young led with 20 points.

Women

Player of the week: University of North Florida Kaila Rougier had 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in two games last week, including a career-high 23 points against Bellarmine. Rougier averaged 5.6 points per game in non-conference play but is averaging 12.5 in ASUN games, with five of eight double-digit games.

Stat line of the week: Flagler senior forward N’Mya Pierce had 15 points, 18 rebounds and made seven of nine shots from the floor in the Saints’ 70-66 loss to North Georgia.

Noting UNF (5-12, 2-5): The Ospreys lost their third game in a row since upsetting Liberty, 71-41 at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. UNF shot only 22.6 percent from the floor and Lyric Swann was the only player in double figures with 10 points – on three of 16 shooting. … In a 65-59 loss at Bellarmine on Thursday, senior forward Elysa Wesolek and freshman guard/forward Helena Rafnsdottir had 10 rebounds each.

Noting JU (8-8, 2-4 ASUN): Injuries and illness forced the Dolphins to postpone their Thursday game at Eastern Kentucky. The game will be played Monday at noon. The Dolphins were able to field a team on Saturday at Bellarmine but lost 66-54. Junior guard Makayla Edwards led with 14 points and senior guard Seraphine Bastin had nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Noting Edward Waters (8-9, 4-5 SIAC): In their only game last week, the Tigers lost 73-62 at Savannah State on Saturday. Senior forward Molly Ragle of Fleming Island had 13 points off the bench and junior forward Kyana Johnson had 12 rebounds in 19 minutes. … EWU has four games in an eight-day span in the coming week, playing home-and-home with Benedict College and Allen University of South Carolina. The Tigers are home on Monday and Wednesday.

Noting Trinity Baptist (4-10, 2-2 NCCAA South Region II): The Eagles lost their only game of the game, 71-45 at home against Pensacola Christian. Junior guard Emma Parrish led with nine points. It only gets tougher: Trinity plays four games within a 10-day span, all on the road, beginning on Monday at Toccoa Falls (Ga.).

Noting Flagler (4-14, 1-7 Peach Belt): The Saints have now lost six of seven after dropping two conference games last week. Four players scored in double figures, led by sophomore guard Taylor Gardner's 17, in the loss at home to North Georgia but Flagler was buried 34-13 by halftime and lost at Augusta 68-52 on Saturday. Sophomore guard Sharale McCormack had 20 points.
