College Basketball | Mount Union women rout Heidelberg, men fall to Student Princes

Emma Cannon and Kelsie Glass scored 14 points each and Mount Union held Heidelberg to 27% shooting in a 74-44 victory Saturday at Timken Gymnasium.

The Purple Raiders (2-2, 1-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) played their first game in 17 days after being sidelined because of COVID restrictions. They shut down the Student Princes (1-7, 0-2), forcing 24 turnovers and racing to a 38-22 lead at halftime.

Isi Palamone added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Mount Union, which plays host to No. 3 John Carroll on Wednesday.

Hallie Rodgers led Heidelberg with 13 points.

Men lose OAC opener

Senior Dylan Woods has made a career out of beating Mount Union. He did it again Saturday, scoring 24 points to lead Heidelberg (6-1, 2-0 OAC) to an impressive 91-72 victory over the No. 12-ranked Purple Raiders at Timken Gymnasium.

The Student Princes led for most of the game and pulled away late in the second half. A key moment in the game came with 14:36 left in the second half. Mount Union's Logan Hill dunked to pull the Purple Raiders to with four points, 54-50, but was whistled for a technical foul for hanging on the rim. Woods made both free throws and the Student Princes started a 14-5 run that gave them a double-digit lead (68-55) that they slowly expanded.

Christian Parker had a career-high 25 points off the bench for Mount Union (5-1, 0-1) and Chris Painter Jr. added 17.

Seth Hohman added 17 points for Heidelberg and freshman Isaiah Young added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and four assists.

Mount Union head coach Mike Fuline was not at the game because of COVID-related protocols.n undisclosed health reason.
